The sequence where Thor describes wedging himself into the volcanic caves, being surrounded by the Earth, being compressed and swallowed, still strikes me with awe and I shudder.

I don't remember seeing this before.  It was saved in my archive and I happened to click on it.  Still think its very funny because I find it annoying how so many websites create an app that is indistinguishable to their mobile site, but every time you try to visit their mobile site you are prompted to download the app.

"...a persisting HEXAGONAL (my emphasis) cloud pattern around the north pole of Saturn...The sides of the hexagon are about 8,600 miles long, which is longer than the Earth's diameter. It rotates with a period of 10h 39m 24s, the same period as Saturn's radio emissions from its interior.  However, the hexagon does not shift in longitude like other clouds in the visible atmosphere."

Toba Explosion

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toba_catastrophe_theory

"According to the genetic bottleneck theory, between 50,000 and 100,000 years ago, human populations sharply decreased to 3,000–10,000 surviving individuals.  It is supported by genetic evidence suggesting that today's humans are descended from a very small population of between 1,000 to 10,000 breeding pairs that existed about 70,000 years ago."

For whatever reason this Genetic Bottleneck has me wondering how much stock we can put in fad Paleodiets.  The constriction of genetic diversity would cause many formerly abundant, or more importantly rare, traits to disappear. Allergies, lactose and gluten intolerances, among other dietary strategies may have greatly lessened.  Or perhaps these are the ones we were left with after the severe reduction in diversity.  Imagine the aversions that may have disappeared.

Roots: Rupt

...since those words are clearly derived from the root forms by simple suffixes that do not alter the roots in any way. In particular, English has very little inflection, and hence a tendency to have words that are identical to their roots. But more complicated inflection, as well as other processes, can obscure the root; for example, the root of mice is mouse (still a valid word), and the root of interrupt is, arguably, rupt, which is not a word in English and only appears in derivational forms (such as disrupt, corrupt, rupture, etc.). The root rupt is written as if it were a word, but it's not.

Rupt a good root for name marketing.

Mulder: Well, maybe you don't know what you're looking for.

Scully: Like evidence of conjury or the black arts? Or shamanism, divination, Wicca, or any kind of pagan or neo-pagan practice? Charms, cards, familiars, blood-stones, or hex signs, or any kind of the ritual tableau associated with the occult; Santeria, Voudom, Macumba or any high or low magic...

Mulder: Scully?

Scully: Yes?

Mulder: Marry me.

Scully: I was hoping for something a little more helpful.

Look Up: Modulus

Proud to add another primary source to my collection, I read the translator's notes and the author's forward and the many thanks Gauss bestows upon his benefactor.

I think, "Oh man, I got this one."  First couple of lines: doing good with reread.  Brain relaxed.

You see, the thing about learning is you have to understand what you don't understand.  You gotta deal with the fact you do not understand that simple little thing on which the entire argument  hinges.  Or the word.  Which, as we all know, is a representation of a concept.

I had to boil it down to modulus.  Ready to let my brain absorb its full meaning later like I usually do I let the word slip passed a few times.  Nope.  Not going to work.  Look it up with that little computer you usually keep in your pocket.  Find out why a congruent b modulus n.  The answer: it's like a fucking clock.
